Autumn Tablescape Inspiration
‘Tis the season for dinner parties! Talented interior designer, Polly Ashman, has shared her favourite techniques for creating a stylish autumnal tablescape to wow your guests. Polly helped make our interior dreams a reality when styling our converted stables, so if you stay with us you’ll see plenty of her styling techniques scattered throughout our accommodation.
Set your Colour Palette
For autumn, keep it classic and opt for warm tones such as rustic yellows, deep earthy reds and pops of orange, reflecting the season’s natural colour palette.
Choose a Strong Base
Find a strong, coloured or patterned tablecloth to act as the anchor for your design. It doesn’t need to be expensive, perhaps you have some spare fabric or a throw could work just as well. Take a look at these Haines Collection fabrics, this sustainable platform facilitates the resale of unwanted textiles, wallpaper, lights and accessories which may well have ended up as landfill! These fabrics are gorgeous, often designer, and there are plenty of options for an autumnal tablescape.
Layer Up!
Layering a table makes it appear more considered and inviting. This includes your crockery, cutlery, glasses as well as candles, napkins, stationery (such as place cards) and any flowers or foliage. Even fruit and vegetables make a great addition to the table when styled correctly.
Go Seasonal
Head out to your garden and see what you can find, hunt down lots of foliage in different shades of green as foliage will often last longer than flowers. Dried flowers offer another long-lasting focal point and will also add texture and interest. Gords, especially at the start of autumn, are a wonderful addition - think marrows, squashes and pumpkins!
Comfort Food
You can even tie your menu in with your overall design. Browse Pinterest for Autumnal recipes for warming dishes such as pumpkin soup, a rich stew or rustic sourdough bread... the list is endless.
