ABOUT US

The Farm at Avebury, or Galteemore Farm as it’s been known since the 1890s, has been farmed by our family, the Hues’, since 1922.

The farm is situated inside the Avebury World Heritage site, in the heart of neolithic Britain. This UNESCO-protected landscape can claim some of the world’s most exciting and iconic monuments, like the ancient burial ground at West Kennet Long Barrow and the mysterious Silbury Hill. The latter can be found right next to our own farm gates.

We are the fourth generation of Hues’ to take on the running of the farm and it is a responsibility that we take very seriously. We don’t see ourselves as owners, but custodians of this land, charged with protecting it for future generations to come. In fact we have three daughters and hope that one day, we can pass the reins, and tractors, onto one (or maybe two?) of them.

Farming as a whole is about to go through the biggest change in a generation, with the removal of subsidies, the fallout from Brexit and the focus on climate change. Though the latter is a positive and much-needed step, it will require farmers across the country to radically alter how they live and work in order to survive.

We are looking forward to this challenge: to diversify our business and connect with our customers in a more environmentally and financially sustainable manner.

The six, stunning new stable conversions and the two event spaces are a key part of this transformation. They will coexist next to a thriving, mixed farm and rapidly growing e-commerce business, selling ABVRY meat and rapeseed oil, directly to consumers.
